Silex Systems Advances Laser Enrichment Technology Towards Commercialisation

Silex Systems Limited has completed a key technology demonstration and is progressing towards commercialisation of its SILEX laser enrichment technology, with significant milestones achieved in 2025. The company, which is a technology commercialisation company with a primary asset in the SILEX laser enrichment technology, has made substantial progress in the development of this unique third-generation laser-based technology for uranium and nuclear fuel production in the US.

Material actions and disclosures

Silex has completed a large-scale pilot demonstration (TRL-6) in October 2025 at GLE’s Test Loop pilot plant facility. This de-risking pathway to commercialisation is now being followed by TRL-7 activities, focusing on technology maturation and final designs for full-scale plant equipment. Additionally, the company has acquired a ~700-acre site for the planned Paducah Laser Enrichment Facility (PLEF) in November 2024, with initial site clearing and other preliminary site works underway.

GLE has also been selected for a US DOE award of up to US$28.5m to continue advancing next-generation laser-based uranium enrichment technology, and a US$98.9m performance-based incentive package from the Commonwealth of Kentucky and McCracken County for the PLEF.

Furthermore, the US NRC has accepted the full licence application for the PLEF, with the licence application accepted by the NRC in August 2025.

Forward commitments

Silex aims to continue technology maturation and supply chain development for commercial plant equipment, with plans for potential feasibility assessment activities and early-stage customer engagement.

GLE’s indicative target timeline for commercialisation of SILEX technology includes the completion of TRL-7, 8, and MRL-7, 8, 9, and the finalisation of full-scale production systems in lead cascade, supply chain, and manufacturing.

These developments reflect Silex’s ongoing efforts to advance its SILEX technology towards commercialisation, leveraging global tailwinds such as nuclear energy growth and net-zero emissions targets.
