Brambles has announced its 2030 Climate Positive targets, focusing on validated science-based emission reduction targets and climate adaptation measures to achieve net-zero GHG emissions by 2040. The company’s climate strategy is structured around two complementary elements: climate transition and climate adaptation.
Material actions and disclosures
Brambles has achieved a 36% reduction in Scope 1 and 2 GHG emissions since its FY20 baseline, and a 16% reduction in Scope 3 emissions. The company has maintained 100% renewable electricity in its operations, with 56% from renewable contracts, 7% from onsite generation, and 37% from Energy Attribute Certificates.
Additionally, Brambles has seen a 5% year-on-year decrease in Scope 1 emissions, driven by the continued improvement in the transition to low and zero emissions vehicles and the electrification of forklift truck fleets at CHEP operated sites. The company has also increased the penetration of zero and low emissions fuels for CHEP operated fleets.
Forward commitments
Brambles aims to achieve its validated 2030 science-based emission reduction targets, which are at the core of its climate transition strategy. The company plans to integrate climate adaptation processes across its timber sourcing and service centre network to enhance resilience against physical climate-related risks.
Furthermore, Brambles is working towards a 1.5°C climate future, as contemplated by the 2015 Paris Climate Agreement. This includes maintaining 100% renewable electricity in its operations and seeking to strengthen the lower carbon advantages of its circular business model.
