Fortescue Aims for Real Zero Target by 2030, Reports FY26 Emissions

Fortescue Ltd has announced its commitment to achieving its Real Zero Target by 2030, focusing on decarbonisation efforts and reporting Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions for the financial year ended June 2026.

Material actions and disclosures

Fortescue reported Scope 1 emissions of 2.75 MtCO₂-e and Scope 2 emissions of 0.39 MtCO₂-e for FY26. The company is implementing the Pilbara Decarbonisation Program to progress towards its Real Zero Target, which aims to eliminate Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions from its Australian terrestrial iron ore operations by 2030.

Fortescue is also assessing projects against asset life, operating cost savings, deployment timing, and opportunities to relocate or reuse equipment and infrastructure across its operations. The company is working closely with government to remove disincentives to decarbonisation and support stronger emissions reduction outcomes.

Forward commitments

Fortescue expects Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions to begin declining from FY28 based on current plans and assumptions. The company is developing solutions to drive decarbonisation globally and is committed to reducing emissions rapidly and profitably.

Fortescue is also implementing the Shipping Target to address shipping emissions, and is considering biogenic emissions in its climate-related disclosures, although no quantitative figures have been reported for FY26.

Fortescue’s commitment to achieving its Real Zero Target by 2030 is a key part of its broader climate-related plan, which includes reducing emissions rapidly and profitably while also developing solutions to drive decarbonisation globally.
