Emerald Resources NL has reported on its FY26 climate and safety initiatives, including carbon-neutral operations in Cambodia and enhanced safety training programs.
Material actions and disclosures
Emerald has strengthened its GHG emissions accounting framework to support its inaugural climate-related financial disclosures under AASB S2. The company’s emissions increased slightly in FY26, reflecting increased operational and development activity across its Australian and Cambodian projects. At Okvau, increased mining activity and material movement contributed to higher fuel consumption, while TSF development and expanded RC drilling exploration programs also increased emissions. Electricity consumption increased modestly, primarily supporting enhanced water management activities including TSF evaporators and the operation of a second PSA plant.
Emerald remains committed to progressing towards carbon-neutral operations in Cambodia. Each year, Emerald contributes to its proprietary Carbon Offset Restoration Program based on the greenhouse gas emissions reported for the Okvau Gold Mine and a project-specific carbon price established for the reporting period, based on recommendations from environmental consultants Earth Systems.
Forward commitments
Emerald has commenced investigations into obtaining Renewable Energy Certificates (RECs) for electricity supplied to the Okvau Gold Mine. The certification process may enable the company to more accurately reflect the renewable electricity mix of its grid supply, which is predominantly sourced from hydropower generated in north-eastern Cambodia.
Emerald continued to invest in workforce capability and safety during FY26, delivering targeted training programs focused on risk management, operational competency, emergency response, and employee wellbeing. These included Cyanide Training, Isolation Training, First Aid Training, Confined Space Training, Pit Permit Training, Dropped Object Training, Women’s Mental Health Training, Defensive Driving Training, Food Handlers Training, and Incident Investigation Training.
