MGX has detailed its approach to managing climate change and social risks in its latest Corporate Governance Statement, released on 30 September 2026. The statement outlines the company’s risk review and strategies to mitigate potential impacts on its operations.
Material actions and disclosures
MGX has undertaken a risk review of the transitional and physical risks arising from climate change impacting its business, focusing on risks connected to regulatory changes, changes in product demand, reputational damage, directors’ duties, increased operating costs, and the impact of severe weather events and rising sea levels. The company considers it may be exposed to the introduction of carbon taxes within the timeframe of its remaining involvement at Koolan Island and its longer-term involvement in the Central Tanami Gold Project.
MGX also recognises the importance of managing social risks, particularly those related to mining operations and the potential for modern slavery in existing operations or those of suppliers. The company manages these risks through various codes of conduct, policies, and procedures guiding employees and contractors to act responsibly in accordance with the MGX Way.
Forward commitments
MGX aims to contribute to global efforts to combat climate change and supports the intent of the Paris Agreement to limit global warming to less than 2°C above pre-industrial levels and the more recent 2021 Glasgow Climate Pact to limit global warming to less than 1.5°C above pre-industrial levels.
The company has also committed to enhancing its diversity policy, aiming to achieve a 30% gender diversity target over a specified period, in line with ASX Recommendations for ASX300 companies, although MGX is not currently an ASX300 company.
MGX’s 2026 Sustainability Report will be available in November 2026, providing a high-level overview of the company’s different environmental and social risks and how the company manages those particular risks and the resources dedicated to doing so.
MGX’s commitment to these areas reflects its ongoing efforts to enhance corporate governance and sustainability practices.
