VRX Silica Limited has advanced its environmental, social, and governance (ESG) initiatives at Arrowsmith North, a silica sand project in Western Australia. The company has approved a Water Supply Operating Strategy in April 2026, setting up ongoing groundwater monitoring at two bores with baseline water levels recorded and clear trigger points for management responses.
Material actions and disclosures
VRX’s Greenhouse Gas Assessment, prepared in 2021, estimated total Scope 1 emissions of 583,330 tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent over the project’s thirty-year operating life, with the consumption of natural gas for electricity generation contributing the majority (81 per cent). The company aims to reduce its emissions profile through the proposed solar farm and battery energy storage system on the newly acquired Arramall land.
In FY27, VRX will develop a Health and Hygiene Management Plan (HHMP) for Arrowsmith North, consistent with the requirements of the Work Health and Safety (Mines) Regulations 2022 (WA), administered by DMPE. The HHMP will set out how VRX identifies, monitors, and controls airborne contaminants, including respirable crystalline silica, alongside inhalable dust, noise, and diesel particulate matter.
Forward commitments
VRX is pursuing a reduction in its emissions profile through the proposed solar farm and battery energy storage system on the newly acquired Arramall land under the February 2026 amendment, which remains before the regulators and undetermined. VRX will also finalise both research programs ahead of the commencement of ground disturbing activities, setting out their objectives, deliverables, and completion criteria.
VRX’s climate-related disclosure obligations are governed by AASB S2 Climate-related Disclosures, with mandatory reporting phased by entity size and VRX anticipating being classed as a Group 3 (financial years beginning on 1 July 2027).
These initiatives reflect VRX’s commitment to safe, sustainable, and responsible operations at Arrowsmith North, as outlined in the company’s regulatory approvals and environmental offset strategy.
