Black Cat Reports FY26 GHG Emissions and Climate-Related Metrics

Black Cat Syndicate Limited has released its FY26 sustainability report, detailing its greenhouse gas emissions and climate-related risks and opportunities. The report outlines the company’s total Scope 1 and 2 emissions at 82,883 t CO2-e, primarily from diesel consumption and purchased electricity.

Material actions and disclosures

Black Cat has applied recognised Australian emissions measurement methodologies for its GHG emissions reporting, including the National Greenhouse and Energy Reporting Act 2007 (NGER Act) for Scope 1 and 2 emissions from facilities within the NGER Scheme. Scope 1 emissions totalled 72,387 t CO2-e, with operational emissions at 55,753 t CO2-e and land clearing emissions at 16,634 t CO2-e. Scope 2 emissions were 10,496 t CO2-e.

Black Cat has also performed a qualitative climate scenario analysis (CSA) using two IPCC Shared Socioeconomic Pathways (SSPs): SSP 1-1.9 and SSP 3-7.0. These scenarios assess the company’s resilience to climate-related risks and opportunities, including increased focus on energy efficiency and potential investment in renewable energy and hybrid power systems.

According to the report, 75% of Black Cat’s assets are vulnerable to transition risks related to reliance on carbon-intensive energy sources and emissions regulation and decarbonisation requirements. Additionally, 75% of assets are exposed to physical risks such as extreme heat and water scarcity.

Black Cat has identified opportunities for energy efficiency, renewable energy, hybrid power systems, and electrification at 75% of its assets.

Despite these assessments, Black Cat has not established any voluntary climate-related targets during FY26 and was not subject to any legislative or regulatory requirements to do so.

Black Cat’s sustainability report was reviewed by Grant Thornton Audit Pty Ltd, who provided limited assurance on the specified Sustainability Disclosures.
