Liberty Group has announced a carbon neutral target for 2030, aiming to reduce net Scope 1 and 2 emissions through operational changes and carbon offsets. The company’s gross Scope 1 and 2 emissions for the year ended 30 June 2026 were 413.4 tonnes of CO2-e, with 113.1 tonnes attributed to Scope 1 and 300.3 tonnes to Scope 2.
Material actions and disclosures
Liberty Group’s emissions reporting adheres to the Greenhouse Gas Protocol and the financial control consolidation approach, ensuring alignment with its financial reporting practices. The company measures emissions in tonnes of CO2 equivalent (tCO2-e), covering the seven GHG Protocol gases using 100-year global warming potentials from the IPCC Sixth Assessment Report. Scope 2 emissions are reported using the location-based method.
Liberty Group’s emissions data is collected by the Facilities and Finance teams and reviewed internally for accuracy. The company’s emissions factors are sourced from publicly available, internationally recognised datasets.
Forward commitments
Liberty Group aims to develop an emissions reduction strategy in FY27 to provide a clear roadmap for reducing GHG emissions over its Scope 1 and 2 emissions sources. The company plans to establish a carbon credit procurement strategy to guide the selection and sourcing of carbon credits, ensuring alignment with its environmental and social objectives.
Liberty Group’s carbon neutral target is a mitigation and offsetting target, aimed at achieving carbon neutrality via net emissions reduction, with the use of offsets expected to play a role in offsetting residual emissions that cannot be eliminated through operational emissions reduction initiatives.
