JB Hi-Fi has announced a target to achieve net-zero direct scope 1 and scope 2 emissions by 2030, focusing on renewable energy procurement and supplier engagement. The company aims to reduce its direct emissions through the procurement of renewable energy and the installation of on-site solar power systems. In the fiscal year 2026, JB Hi-Fi reported a significant decrease in scope 2 emissions, down 38.6% from the previous year, while scope 1 emissions increased by 12%. The company also engaged 321 suppliers to receive 254 responses on emissions data, with 52 suppliers having existing or developing targets to reduce emissions from product manufacturing.
Material actions and disclosures
JB Hi-Fi has made substantial progress in reducing its carbon footprint. In FY26, the company reported 68% of its energy needs met by renewable sources, up from 45% in the previous year. Additionally, JB Hi-Fi completed six new solar installations, bringing the total number of sites with on-site solar installations to 42. The total installed capacity of solar systems is now 4.70 megawatts, contributing to a reduction of 3,003 tonnes of CO2e.
The company also continues to engage with suppliers to reduce scope 3 emissions, with 108 suppliers confirming they have existing targets in place or are developing targets to reduce their emissions. JB Hi-Fi is committed to supporting nature-based initiatives, such as the planting of trees in the Yarra Yarra Biodiversity Corridor, aiming to plant an additional 545,000 trees.
Forward commitments
JB Hi-Fi plans to continue refining the calculation of scope 3 emissions and increasing the proportion of renewable energy across its operations. The company also aims to improve waste diversion across its store network and provide information on product energy efficiency.
The company’s Net-Zero Steering Committee, established to oversee progress towards the net-zero target, meets quarterly and provides regular updates and recommendations to executive management.
