GemLife Announces Enhanced ESG Strategy and Community Battery Program

GemLife has announced its enhanced Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) strategy, focusing on sustainability, resident wellbeing, and responsible governance. The company has independently verified its thermal performance ratings for six GemLife Communities, achieving 7.0-7.7-star NatHERS ratings, well above the national mandatory threshold of 60.

Material actions and disclosures

GemLife has collaborated with ARENA, QUT, and Elecseed on research into community battery energy deployment in Australia. The company has also identified as a Group 2 entity under Australia’s mandatory climate-related financial reporting framework, preparing for mandatory reporting from January 2027, aligned with ASRS and AASB S2.

GemLife has successfully trialled a modern method of construction using Structural Insulated Panels (SIPs) at Rainbow Beach, producing a home consistent in character and quality to traditionally built in-situ homes. This method is expected to deliver lower construction costs, faster delivery times, and improved thermal and acoustic ratings, alongside a reduction in waste.

Forward commitments

GemLife aims to further enhance its vertically integrated operating model to increase production capacity and meet growing demand. The company is near completion of feasibility and factory specifications for this solution, which is intended to expand GemLife’s total addressable market and provide greater control over construction costs and margins across economic cycles.

GemLife has also outlined plans to develop a Reflect Reconciliation Action Plan, supporting sustainability across the business, communities, and stakeholders.

These initiatives reflect GemLife’s commitment to embedding sustainability, resident wellbeing, and responsible governance as the company scales.
