Austral has outlined its rehabilitation plans and native title commitments as part of its environmental and heritage management strategy. The company will undertake several rehabilitation actions upon the completion of mining activities, including the rehabilitation of waste rock dumps, capping of tailings storage facilities, reshaping of ROM pads, and removal of plant and associated concrete footings, buildings, and equipment.
Material actions and disclosures
MinVal, an independent expert, understands that the cash-backed rehabilitation bonds are reviewed annually and are believed to be sufficient to cover all rehabilitation requirements. However, MinVal suggests an additional rehabilitation allowance should be included in any financial analysis prior to the recommencement of mining and processing activities within the Rocklands Project.
Austral has entered into financial and community benefit commitments with the Kalkadoon, Mitakoodi, and Mayi peoples as part of its native title agreements.
Forward commitments
Austral aims to secure external processing partnerships to increase feed to the plant and optimise plant efficiency, addressing the financial risk identified in the derisk report (Guthire, 2025).
The company also plans to conduct further drilling to confirm the grade distribution and reliability of models for the Rocklands project, addressing exploration uncertainty and metallurgical performance risks.
These actions and disclosures reflect Austral’s commitment to environmental compliance and rehabilitation, as well as its efforts to manage social and community impacts.
