Ansell Outlines Ambitious Net Zero Targets and Renewable Energy Goals

Ansell, a leading provider of protective solutions, has outlined its commitment to achieving net zero greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions across its value chain by 2045. The company has also set interim targets to reduce absolute Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions by 90% by 2040 from a 2020 base year, and absolute Scope 3 emissions by 90% by 2045 from a 2022 base year.

Material actions and disclosures

As part of its commitment to decarbonisation, Ansell has achieved a 36% reduction in Scope 1 and Scope 2 GHG emissions from a 2020 base year, and a 15% reduction in absolute Scope 3 GHG emissions from a 2022 base year. The company has also made progress in certifying its manufacturing plants to ISO 50001 Energy Management Systems, with nine out of 14 plants currently certified.

Additionally, Ansell aims to design 80% of new and updated products with reduced environmental impact by 2026, and has achieved 90% of new and updated products designed with reduced environmental impact. The company also plans to achieve 100% recyclable, reusable or compostable packaging for its products by 2026, with 99% of Industrial packaging and 100% of Healthcare packaging currently meeting this standard.

Forward commitments

Ansell has committed to expanding its renewable energy initiatives, aiming to source 100% renewable electricity in its plants by 2040, with a mid-term target of 60% renewable electricity by 2030. The company has also set a target to reduce water withdrawals by 35% by 2027 from a 2020 base year, and to achieve Zero Waste to Landfill (ZWL) certification for all manufacturing plants.

Furthermore, Ansell aims to have 90% of its suppliers by spend covering purchased goods and services and upstream transportation and distribution have science-based targets in place by 2030.

These commitments and actions reflect Ansell’s dedication to addressing climate-related risks and aligning with science-based initiatives, including the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) and the Paris Agreement.
