Alkane Resources has updated its rehabilitation bonds and outlined its environmental compliance measures, including water management and waste rock storage practices. The company’s rehabilitation bond liability as of 1 July 2026 totals A$12,427,000, with specific amounts allocated to the mine site and Splitters Creek Evaporation Facility.
Material actions and disclosures
Alkane Resources operates under an approved Work Plan in accordance with Section 39 of the MRSD Act 1990. The company has compensation agreements in place for land allotments owned by third-party landowners within the boundaries of the ML MIN4644. The rehabilitation bond liability is reviewed regularly to ensure that unit cost assumptions and the scope of work are kept up to date.
Water management at the Costerfield Operation includes the use of recycled process water from the Brunswick and Bombay TSFs. The company has also initiated aquifer recharge trials through the Margarets Aquifer Recharge Project, although this is not currently part of the water management plan.
Waste rock storage practices involve stockpiling waste rock next to the Augusta Mine box-cut and at the Rockgarden, an approved storage location north of the Bombay TSF. Testing confirms that the waste rock is non-acid generating and does not pose an acid-mine drainage risk.
Forward commitments
Alkane Resources plans to undertake preliminary investigations for a new TSF, including site selection activities and the development of an options assessment by ATC Williams Pty Ltd. The design phase is anticipated to take approximately 12 months, followed by a planning and approvals process expected to take around 2 years before construction can commence.
Alkane Resources has also developed a Mine Closure Plan, which provides an overview of the various aspects of closure and rehabilitation that have been included in the rehabilitation bond calculation. The plan outlines how the Augusta site, including the box-cut, waste rock storage, office area and evaporation dams, will be rehabilitated back to the former land use as grazing pasture.
Alkane Resources operates under a thorough regulatory framework, with all appropriate permits and approvals obtained for the MRSD Act 1990, Environment Protection Act 1970, Planning and Environment Act 1987, Environmental Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999, and Flora and Fauna Guarantee Act 1988.
