The airline’s 2026 Climate Statement provides an annual update towards the 2050 Target, reflecting revised assumptions related to fleet and network changes.
Material actions and disclosures
Air New Zealand’s 2026 financial year emissions totalled 4.4 million tonnes of CO₂e, an increase of 3.6 percent from the 2025 financial year. Jet fuel emissions account for the majority of the airline’s GHG emissions, with Scope 1 emissions increasing by 2.7 percent compared to the 2025 financial year.
The airline’s emissions inventory covers Scopes 1, 2, and 3, with the baseline year for Scopes 1 and 2 being 2019, and for other Scope 3 categories being 2024. The inventory has been independently assured by Deloitte Limited on behalf of the Auditor-General, with reasonable assurance over Scope 1 and 2 emissions and limited assurance over Scope 3 emissions.

Air New Zealand has committed to work towards net zero carbon emissions from jet fuel by 2050. The airline’s illustrative roadmap outlines its pathway to reduce net emissions over time, reflecting a central case scenario based on the airline’s view of technology change, investment, partnerships, and policy support.
The roadmap includes short-term and long-term components, reflecting the airline’s greater degree of certainty over the levers available to address emissions. The airline also models low and high cases which indicate potential outcomes for emissions reductions in 2050.
