The Woolworths Group has completed a nature-based risk assessment using the Taskforce for Nature-related Financial Disclosures (TNFD) LEAP framework, focusing on direct operations and highly traded commodities. This assessment aims to inform key areas for action across food categories, including meat, dairy, grains, horticulture, and seafood.
Material actions and disclosures
The assessment identifies and prioritises nature-related risks and opportunities across short-, medium-, and long-term horizons, aligning with the Group Risk Management Framework (RMF) and strategic planning processes. Woolworths engages in broad stakeholder consultations and draws on diverse sources of information, including external research and expert advice, to identify material risks and dependencies.
Woolworths also applies the TNFD LEAP assessment approach to its extensive supply chain, providing a significant opportunity to support sustainable food systems and advance social and economic outcomes. The company aims to drive positive change through nature-based actions and animal welfare programs, partnering with suppliers, industry, and government to reduce collective footprints.
Woolworths has committed to sourcing 100% of fresh meat, eggs, and milk domestically, and 96% of fresh fruit and vegetables in Australia, reflecting its priority areas for action focused on fresh food production in Australia and New Zealand.
Additionally, Woolworths is actively working with suppliers to address site-specific risks, such as improved farming practices or sourcing from alternative locations, to manage environmental challenges and support the long-term viability of the industry.
Woolworths continues to engage constructively with all stakeholders, including customers, suppliers, industry, government, investors, the scientific community, standards setters, and environmental organisations, to ensure the long-term viability of its supply chain and the sustainability of its operations.
These actions and disclosures are part of Woolworths’ broader sustainability strategy, which is set by the Board and supported by the Sustainability Committee. The CSO, supported by the Group Sustainability Platform, tracks and provides regular updates on progress to the Sustainability Committee.
