WesCEF, a division of Wesfarmers, reported a significant improvement in safety performance and a reduction in emissions, aligning with its 2030 sustainability targets. The division’s Total Recordable Injury Frequency Rate (TRIFR) improved to 0.6, marking a record low. Additionally, Scope 1 and Scope 2 (market-based) emissions decreased by 3.3 per cent, reflecting the first full year of emissions reduction following the installation of a tertiary abatement catalyst in one of its nitric acid plants.
Material actions and disclosures
WesCEF’s safety performance saw a significant improvement, with TRIFR falling to 0.6 from 5.6 in the previous year. This improvement was driven by the implementation of a new RESET tool across the business, reinforcing deliberate and risk-aware decision-making practices. The division also completed two major capacity expansion projects without any recordable injuries, demonstrating its commitment to safety.
Regarding emissions, WesCEF continued to focus on initiatives to achieve its 2030 emission reduction targets. The division’s Scope 1 and Scope 2 (market-based) emissions decreased by 3.3 per cent, supported by the first full year of emissions reduction following the installation of a tertiary abatement catalyst in the first of CSBP’s three nitric acid plants.
Revenue for WesCEF increased by 5.9 per cent to $3,138 million for the year, driven by higher prices for fertilisers and spodumene concentrate. Earnings increased by 18.5 per cent to $473 million, reflecting a significant uplift in Lithium earnings, partially offset by reduced earnings from Ammonia and Energy.
