Region Group has continued its efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and enhance climate resilience, installing solar PV and completing climate risk assessments across its retail centres. The company’s principal ESG development in FY26 focused on decarbonisation and environmental management, with a particular emphasis on solar PV generation and climate risk assessments.
Material actions and disclosures
Region Group installed more than 3.2MW of solar PV in the design phase by the end of FY26, contributing to its target of 25MW of solar PV capacity. The company completed climate risk assessments across six retail centres, increasing the total number to 31. These assessments were performed to evaluate the risks of flooding and intense rainfall, and to inform long-term climate resilience strategies. Additionally, Region Group engaged Attigo Consulting as an energy management partner in FY25 to enhance its centralised energy management capability.
Region Group also continued to replace HVAC and other systems to eliminate ozone-depleting refrigerants, reducing Scope 1 emissions. The company reported a 17.9% reduction in electricity consumption and a 2.2% reduction in gas consumption from FY20 to FY26. Furthermore, the company installed a wired Automatic Meter Reader (AMR) system for water meters in selected centres to monitor water usage.
Forward commitments
Region Group aims to achieve Net Zero Scope 1 and 2 GHG emissions by FY30. The company plans to continue completing six additional property climate change impact assessments annually, replacing HVAC and other systems to eliminate ozone-depleting refrigerants, and optimising solar PV assets and reducing energy use. Region Group also continues to include modern slavery requirements in procurement processes and monitors for unethical conduct in line with its Procurement Policy and Supplier Code of Conduct.
These initiatives support the company’s long-term emissions targets and evolving regulatory expectations, aligning with the Australian Sustainability Reporting Standards (ASRS).
