Qantas Group has reported on its environmental, social, and governance (ESG) performance for the fiscal year 2025/26, highlighting achievements in customer satisfaction, employee engagement, and climate targets, while acknowledging setbacks in workplace safety and financial performance.
Material actions and disclosures
The Group reported an Underlying PBT of $2,064 million for 2025/26, below the $2,100 million threshold. Despite significant headwinds, Qantas Airline achieved record-high customer satisfaction, exceeding NPS targets across its network. Employee engagement improved to 72 per cent, representing a year-on-year increase. The Group also reported strong operational safety performance, with improvements in mandatory reporting rates and stability in non-mandatory reporting rates and FDAP rates.
Qantas Group’s climate targets were met or exceeded, with reductions in Scope 1 GHG emissions exceeding the target due to effective operating improvement initiatives and the strategic procurement of Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF). Onshore waste diversion outperformed target, driven predominantly by strong results at Freight terminals and Sydney T3 Lounge. Single-use plastics removal also exceeded target through continued focus on eliminating plastic cups across international and domestic flights and eliminating plastic wrapping from kids kits.
Forward commitments
Qantas Group aims to reduce net Scope 1 and 2 emissions by 25 per cent by 2030 compared to 2019 levels. The Group also plans to procure SAF equivalent to 10 per cent of jet fuel consumption by 2030. These targets are part of the Group’s climate transition plan, which includes fleet and operational improvements, support for a competitive SAF industry in Australia, and the use of carbon credits to address remaining unmitigated emissions.
The Board exercised discretion to grant a threshold result of 25 per cent for the financial metric, acknowledging management’s efforts to mitigate the impact of higher fuel prices through network, capacity, and pricing initiatives. The component score in Workplace Safety was reduced to zero following a contractor fatality in the Group’s freight operations.
Qantas Group continues to prioritise the removal or replacement of high-volume, passenger-facing items, source separation of materials, and frontline engagement to reduce onshore waste and single-use plastics.
Qantas Group’s commitment to continuous improvement in safety, engagement, and environmental management reflects its ongoing efforts to address the needs of its customers, people, and the environment.
Qantas Group’s 2025/26 ESG performance and forward commitments are detailed in the Group’s Sustainability Report 2026.
