IGO has announced significant updates to its approach to modern slavery and procurement, focusing on enhancing supplier due diligence and local sourcing practices. The company has updated its Human Rights Policy, which was completed and approved in FY26, to better address modern slavery risks within its supply chain.
Material actions and disclosures
IGO uses dedicated supplier risk screening software to conduct an initial risk assessment prior to onboarding or engaging any new supplier. This assessment reflects an overall assessment of inherent modern slavery risk. For suppliers identified as higher risk, IGO requests the completion of a Modern Slavery Self-Assessment Questionnaire (SAQ) to obtain specific information about the supplier and determine the specific forms of modern slavery potentially present in their operations and supply chains.
IGO’s procurement contracts require suppliers to take reasonable steps to identify, assess, and address modern slavery risks, notify IGO of any modern slavery incidents, and place similar obligations on their own suppliers. Where required, IGO can impose rectification conditions and undertake supplier verification activities, with a right to terminate the contract if a supplier fails to adequately manage or take reasonable action to address modern slavery issues.
Forward commitments
In FY27, IGO intends to commence a pilot of a streamlined MS SAQ tailored to smaller suppliers, with the aim of implementing the Innovate Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP) 2025–2027. The company also plans to develop a modern slavery training module, which will be finalised and rolled out in FY27.
IGO aims to maintain a register detailing the capabilities and capacities of First Nations businesses and communicate these across the company. The company also plans to track and report on First Nations business spend and identify and engage with businesses at the earliest point in the procurement lifecycle.
IGO’s approach to modern slavery is guided by its Procurement Policy and internal Contractor Management and Procurement Standard, which sets out key principles for the procurement of goods and services and the management of contractors. The company’s Sustainability Committee assists the Board in fulfilling its oversight responsibilities over IGO’s human rights and modern slavery policies and practices.
