Hazer Group and POSCO have extended their collaboration to 2028, advancing the integration of Hazer’s technology into POSCO’s low-carbon steelmaking process. This partnership aims to support the decarbonisation of the global steelmaking industry, which is responsible for over 8% of global CO2 emissions.

Hazer’s technology is uniquely positioned to support the decarbonisation of the global steelmaking industry. The extended collaboration will assess the integration of Hazer’s technology into low-carbon steelmaking processes, including POSCO’s HyREX technology. Graphite testing has been successfully completed across several potential applications, confirming strong synergies with iron and steelmaking.
Hazer’s proprietary advanced technology, called the Hazer Process, enables the production of two product streams: clean and economically competitive hydrogen and high-quality graphite. This technology uses a natural gas (or biogas) feedstock and iron-ore as the process catalyst, promoting low carbon emissions.
Forward commitments
Hazer and POSCO aim to continue evaluating the integration of Hazer’s technology into low-carbon steelmaking processes. This collaboration will leverage Hazer’s expertise in hydrogen production and graphite co-products to support POSCO’s efforts in advancing low-carbon hydrogen-based steelmaking technologies.
These forward commitments are subject to ongoing evaluation and testing to ensure the successful integration of Hazer’s technology into POSCO’s steelmaking processes.
