GWA has achieved zero Scope 2 emissions at its two UK sites in FY2026, reflecting its ongoing commitment to reducing greenhouse gas emissions where it can have the greatest operational impact. This significant reduction was driven by the introduction of renewable electricity at its Prestons, New South Wales, Pinkenba, Norwood, South Australia, and Mulgrave, Victoria offices, as well as its two UK sites.
Material actions and disclosures
In FY2026, GWA strengthened its emissions data management capability through the implementation of the Watershed carbon accounting system. Historical Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions data from FY2023 onwards were loaded and reviewed as part of GWA’s pre-assurance Watershed review process. This provides a more structured basis for emissions data management and a stronger foundation for emissions reporting for upcoming climate-related disclosures.
GWA’s Scope 1 emissions primarily relate to its vehicle fleet, with opportunities for further reductions as vehicles reach the end of their replacement cycle and are transitioned to hybrid models where possible. GWA’s total Scope 1 emissions remained stable in FY2026.
Forward commitments
To support ongoing reductions in environmental impact, GWA will continue to progress initiatives under its ESG roadmap across the following areas:
- Plans to leverage LCAs and EPDs to identify lower-impact materials and reduce product-related emissions.
- Assess opportunities to procure renewable electricity across sites where it has control over energy procurement, while progressing the transition of its vehicle fleet to lower-emissions alternatives.
- Promote reusable packaging opportunities, expand recycled content, improve disposal and increase recycling labelling through the Australasian Recycling Label (ARL).
GWA’s approach to Scope 2 emissions management was further strengthened through the procurement of accredited renewable electricity. In FY2026, renewable electricity supplied under the agreement accounted for approximately 62% of GWA’s Australian electricity consumption, covering 998,090 kWh of the total 1,623,123 kWh consumed.
The power purchase agreement contributed to GWA’s overall Scope 2 emissions reduction by 48% through the procurement of accredited renewable electricity. This initiative also supports GWA’s broader climate-readiness work and aligns with its ESG commitments.
These actions demonstrate GWA’s commitment to reducing its environmental footprint and enhancing its emissions reporting capabilities.
