Growthpoint Properties Australia has achieved its Net Zero Target and made significant progress in renewable energy, waste management, and climate risk assessments, enhancing its sustainability strategy and governance frameworks.
Material actions and disclosures
Growthpoint installed 1,610 kW of solar capacity across 14 assets, bringing the total capacity to 5,817 kW. The company also achieved an average NABERS Energy rating of 5.3 stars, up from 5.2 stars in FY22, and an average NABERS Water rating of 5.0 stars, up from 4.9 stars in FY22. Additionally, Growthpoint completed physical and transition climate risk assessments and scenario analysis, developed a Biodiversity Enhancement Plan, and incorporated stormwater contamination risks into property risk assessments. Waste diversion increased to 37.9% from 23% in FY22, and the company advanced reconciliation objectives through cultural awareness initiatives and increased procurement from Supply Nation Australia registered businesses. Tenant satisfaction remained strong at 77%, and employee engagement was maintained at 76%.
Growthpoint also published modern slavery statements and provided modern slavery training to staff, and continued support for the Property Industry Foundation through national partnerships, fundraising, and volunteering initiatives. The company developed a new FY27-2030 Sustainability Strategy to guide future sustainability performance and conducted a comprehensive gap analysis and implemented several key actions for mandatory climate reporting.
Forward commitments
Growthpoint aims to achieve the Group’s Net Zero Target on 1 July 2025, maintain net zero performance, and establish a suitable post-net zero target aligned with a reputable decarbonisation pathway. The company plans to implement tailored sustainability plans for new fund investments and achieve an average of 50% waste diversion across directly held operationally controlled office assets. Additionally, Growthpoint aims to achieve an average of 90% waste diversion for major refurbishment and fit out projects under Growthpoint control, maintain a tenant customer satisfaction rating above 70/100, and maintain an employee engagement score above the Real Estate Australian benchmark.
Finally, Growthpoint intends to implement sustainability plans across relevant directly held industrial assets.
