Fletcher Building Updates Emissions Reduction Targets and Announces Assurance

Fletcher Building has updated its emissions reduction targets in line with the Science-Based Targets initiative (SBTi) requirements, aiming to align with a 1.5°C pathway. The company’s FY26 Scope 1 and 2 emissions have been externally assured by EY, receiving reasonable assurance, while Scope 3 emissions have received limited assurance.

Material Actions and Disclosures

Fletcher Building’s FY26 Scope 1 and 2 emissions were 894 kt CO2e using the location-based method (LBM) and 921 kt CO2e using the market-based method (MBM). These emissions are primarily associated with the company’s cement operations, process heat, transport fuel, and electricity use in Australia.

The company’s biogenic emissions, such as those from biomass combustion, the biogenic fraction of tyres, and liquid biofuels, were quantified during inventory preparation and reported separately as part of the natural carbon cycle.

Forward Commitments

Fletcher Building aims to reduce absolute Scope 1 and 2 GHG emissions by 56% by FY35 from an FY18 base year, and absolute Scope 3 GHG emissions by 40% by FY35 from an FY23 base year. Long-term targets include reducing absolute Scope 1 and 2 emissions by 90% by FY50 from an FY18 base year and absolute Scope 3 emissions by 90% by FY50 from an FY23 base year.

The company’s Transition Plan focuses on addressing significant components of its Scope 3 GHG emissions, including cement and clinker production, energy procurement, process heat, and supply chain resilience.

Fletcher Building’s Assurance Report, issued by EY, confirms that the company’s FY26 Scope 1 and 2 emissions have been externally assured and received reasonable assurance, while Scope 3 emissions have received limited assurance.
