Black Rock Mining has continued to integrate environmental and social considerations into its project development, including connecting to Tanzania’s hydro-dominated grid and engaging with local communities. The company’s sustainability approach is supported by its Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) and Sustainability Principles and Sustainability Roadmap, which provide a framework for managing environmental, social, and governance priorities across the project lifecycle.
Material actions and disclosures
In FY26, the company conducted a Materiality Review which identified economic impacts, business ethics, human rights, biodiversity, occupational health and safety, and local communities as priority topics for the project development stage. Black Rock Mining maintains ongoing engagement with the Government of Tanzania and relevant authorities to support the development of the Project and alignment with national priorities. Key engagements during FY26 included the October 2025 groundbreaking ceremony officiated by the Minister of Minerals, Hon. Anthony Mavunde, and meetings in April and June 2026 with senior government representatives to discuss the Project’s development and funding progress.
The Project will connect to Tanzania’s national grid through a new 220kV transmission line, with the hydro-dominated grid expected to support a lower-emissions electricity supply. In FY26, further work was undertaken to identify potential offset areas and refine the Project’s biodiversity offset liability. Community engagement is managed through the Stakeholder Engagement Management Plan, with resettlement activities during FY26 including compensation for affected households along the mine access road corridor, relocation of graves, and livelihood restoration measures.
Forward commitments
Black Rock Mining aims to continue its focus on responsible project delivery, environmental management, community outcomes, and strong governance. The company plans to further refine its biodiversity offset liability and continue engaging with local communities and government authorities to ensure the Project aligns with national priorities.
