The company achieved a 75% reduction in high-potential injury frequency from FY20 to FY26, aligning with its commitment to workforce safety. Additionally, BHP aims to reduce operational GHG emissions by at least 30% from FY20 levels by FY30, with a 34% reduction already achieved by FY26.
Material actions and disclosures
BHP has also made progress on its Indigenous partnerships, achieving record spend with Indigenous partners, up 18% from FY25. The company aims to achieve 9.7% Indigenous employee participation in Australia by FY27 and 10.0% in Chile by FY26. Furthermore, BHP has strengthened its focus on increasing the representation of women in leadership roles, achieving 39.3% women in leadership roles by FY26.
BHP has completed external verification against a credible international standard for environmental, social, and governance practices, contributing US$44 billion to suppliers, contractors, employees, governments, and voluntary investment in social projects in the communities where they operate.
Forward commitments
BHP aims to achieve a 30% reduction in the area under stewardship with a formal management plan by FY30. The company also plans to reduce value chain GHG emissions by 40% of the GHG emissions intensity of BHP-chartered shipping by 2030. Additionally, BHP supports the development of steel production technology to achieve a 30% lower GHG emissions intensity relative to conventional blast furnace steelmaking.
BHP continues to provide updates on the Steel Decarbonisation Program through the OFR 9.10 – Climate Change and Sustainability Report in the Annual Report and publishes targeted Insights articles that more directly reflect and explain progress and impact towards the medium-term goal for steelmaking.
