APA Group has reported a 20.8% reduction in gas infrastructure underlying gross emissions relative to its adjusted FY21 base year, marking significant progress in its decarbonisation efforts. The company’s FY26 Sustainability Report highlights this achievement, which was accomplished without the need to surrender any carbon credits to meet Safeguard Mechanism requirements.
APA is also progressing with the East Coast Gas Grid (ECGG) Expansion Plan, with a final investment decision reached for Stage 3A and 3B. Stage 3A will see an investment of $260 million, while Stage 3B will require an additional $220 million. These investments are part of APA’s broader strategy to support Australia’s evolving energy needs.
Material Actions and Disclosures
APA has implemented a methane reduction program across seven gas infrastructure assets, including the installation of lower emissions seals and leak detection and repair activities. These measures are aimed at reducing methane emissions, a potent greenhouse gas.
In addition, APA has invested in renewable energy and battery storage to support its decarbonisation goals. This includes the development of the 72 MW Sybella Creek Solar Farm and the 52 MW / 104 MWh battery energy storage system (BESS). The company has also invested in reciprocating gas engine technology at Thomson Power Station to support rapid responses to changes in electricity demand.
APA has engaged 21 suppliers to support them in setting net zero goals, demonstrating its commitment to value chain decarbonisation. The company’s focus remains on decarbonising operational emissions and supporting customer decarbonisation.
Forward Commitments
APA aims to achieve net zero operational emissions by 2050, with a continued focus on reducing emissions intensity and investing in renewable energy and battery storage. The company plans to progress with the development of the Sybella Creek Solar Farm and continue engaging suppliers to support them in setting net zero goals.
APA’s approach to decarbonisation is grounded in ongoing engagement on climate-related matters with securityholders and other stakeholders, reflecting its commitment to climate reporting transparency.
