ASX Reduces Scope 1 Emissions, Maintains Safety Record, Establishes Sustainability Committee

ASX Limited, a leading Australian securities exchange, has reaffirmed its FY27 total expense growth and capital expenditure guidance, with technology modernisation being a key driver. The company’s core systems performed well during heightened activity, supporting customers reliably as trading volumes increased.

The Core ESG Action

ASX has established a board sustainability compliance committee to oversee its environmental, social, and governance (ESG) practices. The company aims to reduce Scope 1 emissions by 12% in 2026 and maintain zero long-term issues (LTIs) over the next 12 months.

ESG Themes and Impacts

The second half of FY26 saw exceptionally active and volatile markets, driven primarily by global events. ASX recorded its highest month of futures trading volume ever and the second-largest equities trading day ever by number of executed trades. The company’s technology modernisation program is expected to drive 18-21% total expense growth in FY27.

However, the program also carries inherent delivery risks that may impact guidance. ASX has committed to addressing historical underinvestment compared to global peers, which was identified in the Final ASIC Inquiry Panel Report.

Governance and Regulatory Alignment

The company’s governance framework is aligned with regulatory requirements, including the Listing Rules and the Corporate Governance Principles. ASX continues to advocate for vibrant public markets and has released a draft fifth edition of the Corporate Governance Principles following a recommendation from the Advisory Group on Corporate Governance.

Forward Commitments

ASX will host an analyst and investor webcast at 11.30am (AEST) on 13 August to discuss its FY27 results and outlook. The live webcast can be viewed on the ASX website.
